In the neighborhood of the Kasbah of Marrakech called Ksibtnhas, deep in the old city of Marrakech, a man and his clean-up cart work through the streets of the city to clean the streets each and every day except Friday, the Muslim holy day. He is employed by the city of Marrakech and is what we would call a "sanitation worker." He picks up the garbage placed out in front of each house's door. Note his equipment. He pulls the cart behind him, like a wheelbarrow backwards. His broom is handmade. He has a shovel. That's it. -What relationship can you make between the scale of the street and the scale of the sanitation worker's equipment? -How often is garbage collected where you live? |
