Berber fields
Ilil, High Atlas Mountains

By early July, the Ait Mizane have harvested their first crop of the year, barley, and are busy plowing and seeding for a second crop, corn.

In this image of the Imlil Valley, you see some Berber farmers plowing up the stubble of barley for the new corn crop; you also see some women carrying off the last of the barley, which has been bunched together into shocks and is now being carried to their village. At the village the barley will dry fully and then be threshed by a team of donkeys and mules running over it. Men then winnow the barley, separating the grain from the chaff.

Note the complete absence of machines in this image. All agricultural work is by hand.
