			The lower promenade deck of a cruise ship off the coast of Alaska. Four laps make a mile, and every morning hundreds of passengers take their exercise, walking briskly around, all in the same direction. The cruise ships that plie Alaskan waters in summer, cruise Mexico and the Caribbean in winter, when the deck chairs probably see more use.
