| Northern California - Mount Lassen, Pit River, and Modoc Plateau | |||
| The Cinder Cone in Lassen Volcanic National Park is so fresh and new looking that pioneers on the Oregon Trail, which runs right next to it, thought it had just erupted. It's actually a few hundred years older than that. The trail to the top is steep and loose, a real effort, but the view from the summit is wonderful, a gallery of volcanic landforms spread out in all directions. | |||
