| The Klamath Mountains had their own gold rush, smaller but very similar to the more famous rush of 1849 to the Sierra foothills. In the main town of Weaverville space was at a premium and separate business addresses were maintained for ground level and second level in many buildings. Spiral staircases were sometimes built to provide direct access. | |||
