| In 1988 wildfires burned for weeks and destroyed a large portion of the forests of Yellowstone. Fire is a natural part of this environment, and many species, especially the ubiquitous lodgepole pine seen here, have difficulty reproducing without it. Forests throughout the burn area are regrowing rapidly, but the landscape looks very different than it did before the fire. | |||
